Obituary

Carie Dodson Young was born March 5, 1942 in Braselton, GA as the eldest child of Jessie Mae Dodson and Henry Edwards. She passed away March 11, 2012.

After the death of her mother during childbirth, Carie and all of her siblings were adopted by other families in the Winston-Salem area.

Carie attended Winston-Salem public schools and graduated from Carver High School. She went on to earn her Associates Degree as a Licensed Practical Nurse. She lived and worked, over 40 years, in Englewood, NJ. It was there that she met and married Leroy Young. They were married in 1983, and she worked with him in his business at Clausen and Young Transfer and Storage Company. After selling the business, Leroy and Carie Young moved to Winston-Salem in 1997 where she resided until her death. After the death of her husband in 1999, Carie went to work at the Lutheran Home Nursing Center of Winston-Salem. There she worked faithfully as a night shift nurse until her death. Carie was active in the church, as well as in the 222nd Chapter of the Eastern Star Organization, where she was a Pass Worthy Matron. She also volunteered her time caring for community friends during times of illness or recovery from surgeries.
