Obituary

Calvin Williams, Sr., age 61, of Brooklyn, NY, returned to his heavenly home on May 9, 2025.

Calvin Williams was a God-fearing man who loved the Lord, his family, his Cowboys, and the NY Knicks. He set an example for his children and grandchildren, that will lead them throughout their lives.

Calvin Williams was born in Brooklyn, NY, on October 16, 1963 to Mack and Ethel

Williams. He married his childhood sweetheart, Teresa, in 1983. They remained married for 42 years. He was educated through the NYC public school system and graduated from East NY High School.

Calvin was a man who believed in working hard and being a provider for his family. He always said his prayer was, "Lord if I have to work these hard jobs, then so be it, but please don't let my family go homeless."  Whether it was working at Costco, King Kullen, or Hunts Point Market, he gave everything he had to provide for his family and to stand tall in his integrity. Through long hours and honest work, he built a life not just for himself, but for those he loved most.

Calvin was a devoted husband to his wife, Teresa; when you saw one, you knew the other was nearby.  He continued to love her even after her transition in 2024. He went to visit her every weekend, made sure she had new floral arrangements, and played her favorite gospel songs. Calvin continued this routine until God called him home.

As a dedicated father, he paved the way for his children and grandchildren by mentoring, caring, providing, and setting high standards. He was a no-nonsense man, but he always did things out of love, whether it was setting you straight, giving you advice, listening while you vented, or just being truthful with you even when it hurt.

In 2017, he relocated to Winston-Salem, NC with his family. He loved his Hope Valley Neighborhood and was known for his yearly Christmas decorations. Calvin was a die-hard Dallas Cowboys fan from Troy Aikman to Dax Presott. Any opportunity he saw to talk about the cowboys, he did, whether it was Walmart or a parking lot.  In the evenings he enjoyed watching Family Feud and Sanford and Sons. Calvin loved talking to his cousin Levi and close friends Miguel, Daryl, and Kenny. Even though they were not born brothers, he considered this group of men his brothers and talked about them frequently.

Calvin was preceded in death by his father, Mack Williams; wife, Teresa Ann Williams; and brother, Vann Williams.

He is survived by his mother, Ethel Williams; children, Calvin Williams, Jr. (Chinaza), Samuel Smith (Kenyatta), Taynay Williams- Washington (Sean), LaRhonda Williams, and Omari  Washington; his only sister, Wendy Williams; brothers-in-law, Wise Allah and Raheen Banks; his sisters-in-law, Karen Barnes, Deloris Leecost, and Shareesa along with his sister in Christ, Fay Singleton; his grandchildren, Imani, Joshua, Malachi, Gabriel, Fayth, and Joesyah; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
