"DD" (Double-D) is the name he earned, and many called him on campus. Later, Byron was also a member of two local bands called Taurus and Phonic Pleasure where he was a trumpet player.

Byron was a very sharp dresser who believed in dressing to the max and he was always recognized for his style.

He stayed active until his health began to decline and on Sunday, May 9, 2021, Byron passed away at Novant Forsyth Medical Center surrounded by his family. Byron was an awesome husband, father, grandfather, protector, family comedian, friend, and a role model. He loved his children dearly and they meant the world to him.
