Brooksie McCullough, 100, of 1810 East 5th Street, went home to be with the Lord on February 10, 2011. She was born on April 23, 1910 to the late J. Walter and Essie Jeter Mills of Carlisle, SC. Brooksie was the third born of 12 children.
Brooksie moved to Winston Salem, NC in 1934 and was employed at the RJ Reynolds Tobacco Company for 40 years until her retirement.
At an early age Brooksie was baptized into the AME Church in Carlisle, SC and maintained her faithful devotion at St. James AME Church of Winston Salem, NC where she became Mother of the Church, and was loved by many.
Her smiling face and love for her family, and everyone she came in contact with will be greatly missed.
Brooksie leaves to mourn her cherished memory her sisters, Mary Lash and Dorothy Poston of Carlisle, SC; her devoted nephew, Terry Gist (Sandra) of Boiling Springs, SC; her very special church friends Constance Pearson and Dorldine Adams; and a host of nieces, nephews, family, friends, and her long time church family of St. James AME Church of Winston Salem, NC.
Funeral services will be held at 12noon Monday, February 14, 2011 at St. James AME Church with Rev. Steven Lyons officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. The family visitation will be held from 11:30am until 12noon on Monday at the Church.
