Mrs. Bronnie Harris Daniels peacefully transitioned into eternal rest on Monday, August 22, 2022. She was born to the late Mrs. Lucy Hawkins and Mr. Craven Turner of Anson County, NC. She was preceded in death by her loving and devoted husband, the late Dr. B.F. Daniels.
Mrs. Daniels was known as a graceful first lady as she served alongside her husband, the late Reverend Dr. B.F. Daniels, senior pastor of Union Baptist Church of Winston-Salem, NC. Mrs. Daniels served faithfully for humanity through long and distinguished service as a counselor to young people and as a volunteer with a variety of organizations, including Women's Baptist Home and Foreign Baptist Convention of North Carolina, of which she was president.
Mrs. Daniels earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Education from Winston-Salem State University and Master of Science degree in both education, and guidance and counseling from North Carolina A&T State University. After 35 years of service, she retired as a Guidance Counselor from the Winston-Salem Forsyth County School system.
Her experience has been wide and varied. She served as a volunteer with Crisis Control Ministries, Habitat for Humanity, the Forsyth Women's Shelter and the League of Women's Voters. She directed the Forsyth County Missionary Union Institute of the Woman's Baptist Home & Foreign Missionary Convention of North Carolina. She rendered services to the North Carolina Baptist State Convention Commissioned Seminary as an Extension Instructor.
Mrs. Daniels has held membership in many religious organizations. She has served at both the local and state level of the Ministries Wives and Widows Committee of the Lott Carey Baptist Foreign Mission Auxiliary. She has held elective leadership positions such as National Chair of the Ministers Wives & Widows Awards Committee; President of the Rowan Women's Auxiliary; and Trustee and General Board, Executive and Personnel Committee of The General Baptist State Convention.
Her involvement and leadership extend beyond religious organizations. She has been recognized by the NAACP for her community tutorial programs and was named an Outstanding Women's Leader in Winston-Salem. Mechanics and Farmers Bank recognized her efforts by presenting her with the Russell Funeral Home Lifetime Achievement Award.
Mrs. Daniels received the Distinguished Service Award-Continuing Support of the Shaw Divinity School where she established a Shaw University Divinity School Scholarship in memory of her late husband, Dr. B. F. Daniels. In addition, she received an honorary degree of Doctor of Humane Letters, Honoris Causa.
In addition to her late husband, Mrs. Bronnie Daniels was preceded in death by her loving brother, Thomas Harris; and devoted nephew, Kevin Harris. Left to cherish her memories are a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Her presence, laughter and smile will be sorely missed.
A viewing will be held from 1:00pm until 5:00pm Friday, August 26, 2022 at Russell Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be held at 12:00noon Saturday, August 27, 2022 at Mt. Zion Baptist Church. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. The family visitation will be held from 11:00am until 12:00noon on Saturday at the Church. Funeral services will be livestreamed on the Mt. Zion Baptist Church website: https://mtzionthejoy.org
