Obituary

On Thursday, September 26, 2007 at the Kate B. Reynolds Hospice & Palliative Care Center, our treasured Brenda Avonette Porter Jones fulfilled her life's assignment. Planted here in Winston-Salem, NC on March 30, 1949, Brenda A.P. Jones was born to "A.C." Albert Cash Porter and Anna Lee Logan Porter. Brenda was raised by her grandparents, the Carters.

She attended school in Winston-Salem. Graduating from Paisley High School in 1967, Brenda continued her education at the Kate Bitting Reynolds Memorial Hospital School of Nursing on August 2, 1970. A long time member of Mt. Calvary Holiness Church, Brenda was active on the choirs and Sunday School Ministry. She was a devout Christian and lover of God.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Anna Lee Logan Porter and her husband, Robert Louis Jones.

Today she leaves to cherish her memory to her father, A.C. Porter (Geraldine) of Newark, NJ; two sons, Kelvin Louise Jones (Kaisha) of Winston-Salem, NC and Bobby Louis Jones of the home; granddaughters, Khadeejah and Kiaundra of Winston-Salem, NC; two brothers, Mark and Chris Porter both of New Jersey; two sisters, Majorie Blair of Florida and Denise Porter Davis (Christopher) of New Jersey; a long time friend Brenda Huntley Thompson; a devoted friend Cindy Vanhoy (John); and special friends from 5th West at Forsyth Medical Center as well as a host of other Novant Health colleagues, family members, and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 1 pm Monday, October 1, 2007 at the Russell Funeral Home Chapel with Elder Wardlow Frazier officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. Family visitation will be held from 12 Noon until 1 pm Monday at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be sent to Mt. Calvary Holiness Church or Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Center.
