Obituary

Brenda Hall LaBoy, the eldest of ten children, was born in Winston-Salem, NC on April 29, 1949 to Willie Gardner and Ethel Gunthrop. She attended Atkins High School before moving to Paterson, NJ in 1967.
Brenda Hall LaBoy married David LaBoy on December 24, 1980. They were blessed with two children, Renee' Devan LaBoy and Demond Leval LaBoy. Reverend C.J. Spencer, pastor of Family Circle Baptist Church, at 174 West Broadway, Paterson, NJ, gave her the right hand of fellowship into the church. Sister LaBoy and her family attended faithfully until they moved to North Carolina. She was appointed Church Secretary and served in that capacity for several years. After retiring and moving back to North Carolina in 1993, Sister Brenda Hall LaBoy joined Goler Memorial AME Zion Church at 630 North Patterson Ave, Winston-Salem, NC and attended until she became ill. David and Brenda LaBoy traveled to many new territories during the course of their marriage and more so during their retirement. Despite her failing health and her husband's death she continued to travel.
In 1990, Brenda Hall LaBoy was diagnosed with Retroperitoneal Liposarcoma. True to her nature, she pushed back, often defying many odds and winning several important victories along the way. In the end she recognized that this was the means by which the Lord was calling her to be with Him. Upon that realization, Brenda LaBoy surrendered not to the disease, but to her Lord, on Sunday, April 18, 2010.
Brenda Hall LaBoy was preceded in death by her husband, David LaBoy whom she greatly missed; brothers, Michael, Donald, Billy, Rickie, and Ronald Hall; and one step-sister Betty Gunthrop Thompson all formerly of Paterson, NJ.
Left to mourn her passing are her mother, Ethel Gunthrop of Winston-Salem, NC; daughter, Renee' LaBoy Sterling of Elizabeth, NJ; son, Demond Leval LaBoy, Sr. of Charlotte, NC; step-children Linwood Mickey of Mt. Holly, NJ, David (Doreen) LaBoy Jr. of Whittler, CA, Derrick LaBoy, Angel (Elaine) LaBoy of Bronx NY, Charlene Inman of Tampa, FL, and Mercedes LaBoy of Ponce, PR; sisters, Darlene Valentine, Vickie Hall, and a special devoted sister, Patricia Washington all of Paterson, NJ; one brother, Dennis Hall; a step-sister, Sarah Gunthrop; a step-brother, Oscar Gunthrop all of Paterson, NJ; and two devoted aunts, Doris Hall Christian and Carolyn Shell both of Winston-Salem, NC; two devoted friends, Lavetta Williams and Rodney Duncan both of Winston Salem, NC; devoted cousins, Sherry Spears, Eric Hall and Donnard Christian all of Winston-Salem, NC; and a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, family and friends.
