Obituary

Bishop John W. Huntley, Jr. was born in Union County, N.C. on October 10, 1937 to the late Johnny Huntley, Sr. and Martha Cuthbertson Huntley. Bishop Huntley peacefully slipped into his eternal slumber on April 10, 2018 after a brief sickness.

He graduated from East Union High School in Union County, N.C. and moved to Winston-Salem at the age of 19 with early employment at the Coca-Cola Bottling Company. Because of his excellent work ethic, he was approached to join the work force for RJ Reynolds Tobacco Company where he became a lead mechanic. He retired from RJ Reynolds Tobacco Company on Feb 01, 1989 after 28 years of loyal service.

Bishop Huntley attended numerous churches including Piney Grove East Missionary Baptist Church of Marshville, N.C., Friendship Baptist Church, Winston-Salem, N.C., First Assembly, Winston-Salem, N.C., and was called into the ministry under Pastor Duncan at Alpha & Omega Church of Faith, Inc. of Winston-Salem, N.C. Through years of devoted service, he became Bishop of The Churches of Faith, Inc. and co-pastored Alpha & Omega Church with his beloved wife, First Lady, Deloris R. Huntley. Some of the notable programs initiated at Alpha and Omega by Bishop Huntley and First Lady Deloris R. Huntley are: Food Pantry, Community Garden, Children's Health Fair, Infant Mortality, Alpha & Omega Family Institute, Kwanzaa Celebrations, Children's Academy, Law Enforcement Appreciation Breakfast, Community Block Party, Christmas Bike Giveaway, Adult Computer Classes, Parenting Classes, Sitter size Classes, Market Place Walkers, Vigils for Healing, Smart Start, Ashley Elementary School Tutoring, Sunrise Towers Ministry, Transportation Ministry, and Community Coat Drive.

He was preceded in his home going by his beloved wife, Deloris R. Huntley of the home; sister, Bertha Carelock; brothers, Neal Huntley and Howard Huntley; and nephew, Wesley Lawrence.

He leaves to cherish his memory 3 children: John W. Huntley, III (Joy), Sophia Huntley Black (Dr. Perrin), LaShun A. Huntley; 3 devoted sisters, Mable Rush (Thomas) of Charlotte; Willie B. Hunter of Matthews; and Iris Pharr of Charlotte. Bishop is also survived by grandchildren Niyah Huntley, Choneva Huntley, Kimberly Moore, Perrin J. Black,II, Jai Perrie Black, Raja Huntley, James Singletary, Dante Eugene Singletary, Quetta Leach, and Sharrod Leach; devoted sister-in-law, Mamie Lawrence (Willie and Wistel); great grandchildren;  and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00pm Saturday, April 21, 2018 at Bethlehem Missionary Baptist Church with Rev. Ardeal Roseboro officiating. Interment will follow in Piedmont Memorial Gardens. The family visitation will be held from 12:00noon until 1:00pm on Saturday at the Church.
