Mr. Billy Raymond Mitchell, 76 of 3615 Spaulding Drive passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 27, 2011 at Forsyth Medical Center Palliative Care Unit at 4:00am after an extended period of illness.
He was born to the late Roberta Mitchell Clyburn on October 8, 1934. He was a native of Rural Hall, NC. He was a graduate of Carver High School, and he played baseball with the Winston-Salem, NC Pond Giants, Carver High School, and Rural Hall Giants. He worked for RJ Reynolds and retired from Forsyth Medical Center.
He was preceded in death by his mother; his wife; grandparents; uncles and aunts.
He is survived by one sister, Doris (Joe) Woodruff; two brothers, James (Clara) Clyburn and Donald Clyburn all of Winston-Salem, NC; special cousins, Doug Mitchell, June Anthony, Patricia Shouse, and Lynn Shouse; numerous nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 1pm Thursday, June 2, 2011 at the Russell Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend James R. Clyburn, Sr. officiating. Interment will follow in Piedmont Memorial Gardens. The family visitation will be held from 12noon until 1pm on Thursday at the funeral home.
