Mr. Billy W. Miller, Sr., a loving husband, father, grandfather, uncle and friend, departed this earthly life Wednesday, November 16th, 2011. He was born December 10, 1937 to the late Martha Smith Miller and Milas Miller.
Mr. Miller was a native of Winston-Salem, NC and graduated from Carver High School. Mr. Miller was honorably discharged from the United States Army, where he served his country as a paratrooper in the Korean War. He retired from R. J. R. Archer.
Mr. Miller attended White Rock Baptist Church. He loved playing softball with the Archer All-Stars, fishing, gardening and cutting wood.
He was preceded in death by his son; four brothers; and two sisters.
He is survived by his loving wife of 33 years Carolyn "Baby Cakes" Miller; his sons, Billy Miller Jr. (Lorraine) of Charlotte, NC and Maurice Profitt (Kelly) of Greenville, SC; sisters, Naomi Crawford and Rachel "Bett" Penn; granddaughters, Elizabeth and Catherine Miller and their mother Cathy Miller, and Kensington Profitt; mother-in-law, Annie E. Penn; four sisters-in-law, Almeta Miller of Brooklyn N.Y., Constance Bradley, Gloria Broadway (James) and Sheila Jackson all of the city; and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 12noon Monday, November 21, 2011 at White Rock Baptist Church with Rev. Cedric Crawford officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. The family visitation will be held from 11:00am until 12noon on Monday at the Church.
The family wishes to extend special thanks to the Oncology staff at Winston-Salem Healthcare, the Radiation Department at Forsyth Regional Cancer Center, and Dr. Scurry of Piedmont Ear, Nose and Throat.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the American Cancer Society in honor of Mr. Miller's life and legacy.
