Mr. Billy Hairston was born June 28, 1936 in Forsyth County to the late Walter McKensie and Alma Hairston.  He transitioned to his eternal home in Heaven on October 12, 2020 after an extended illness.

He attended Carver High School and received several certifications from North Carolina State University.  He married the love of his life, the late Mary Malzina Scales on July 13, 1956.  To this union was born four beautiful daughters.  They were happily married for 55 years.

Billy retired from RJ Reynolds Tobacco Company after 35 years of service; where he was a Construction Engineer Supervisor.  He started H & L Construction, Inc in June of 1991 along with Mr. Luther Leak.  He was instrumental in the incorporation of the town of Walkertown, NC, where he served as the 1 ^st and only African American Councilman for apx. 15 years. He also served as Mayor Pro-temp for a brief period.  He donated his time, abilities, and materials to the town of Walkertown and other municipalities in North Carolina.

He was a dedicated member of Oak Grove Missionary Baptist Church of Walkertown, NC where he served as Chairman of the Trustee Board.  He was also a dedicated usher and served the church in many capacities.

He leaves to cherish precious memories four daughters, Billie Deborah Murray of Walkertown, NC, Tangelia Juneaice Hairston of Raleigh, NC, Jane Loretta Percival of Wilmington, NC, and Mary Jacqueline "Bitty" (Jimmie) Scott of Walkertown, NC; grandchildren, Albert Redd, III, Juneaice Nicole (Curtis) Downing, Artez Rose, II, Tiffany Ann Murray, Phylicia Juneaice (Demarquil) Barr, Natasha Shenea Murray, Sharde Tanicia Scott, Tianna Malzina Percival, Lamarr Percival, and Lewis Percival; nine great-grandchildren; five sisters, Doretha Lyons, Anna Horton, Janet (Isaiah) Timberlake, Clara (Willie) Pinkney, and Helen Horton; and a host of extended family and friends.

Billy was a BIG Man, with a BIG Heart.  He gave freely of all his resources to his family, his church, his community, and his friends.  He will be greatly missed by all those who had the honor to know him. To God Be the Glory for the life of Mr. Billy Hairston.

A viewing will be held from 1:00pm until 5:00pm Friday, October 16, 2020 at Russell Funeral Home.  Private funeral services will be held Saturday, October 17, 2020.  Interment will follow in Gardens of Memory, Walkertown, NC.
