Obituary

On Tuesday, October 16, 2012, the Lord sent for his beloved daughter Betty Jean Pennix Shepherd and granted her everlasting peace and serenity.
Betty Jean was born October 16, 1946 the daughter of the late Walter Pennix; Mary Pemberton; and her step-father, Junior Jenerette.

Betty attended school in Beckley, West Virginia until the age of 10 when her family moved to Philadelphia, PA. She was a member of Union Baptist Church and took Jesus Christ as her personal savior at a young age.
Betty was a devoted and loving wife to her husband and a mother to her children and all of her family members and anyone who needed her.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her daughter, Pricilla Shepherd; and her brother, Walter Pennix, Jr.

Betty's loving and generous spirit will live on in the hearts of her loved ones left here to cherish her memories; her husband of 40 years, Jeffrey Shepherd, Sr.; seven children, Maria Pennix, Wanda Pone, Fisher (Karen) Pone, Renee Allen, James (Nichet) Pone, Walter (Peggy) Pone, and Jeffrey (Linda) Shepherd, Jr.; two devoted grandchildren, Elijah Pone and Simone Pennix; 33 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; four brothers, William Pennix, Gregory Pennix, Robert Pennix, and John Pennix; two sisters, Linda Baile and Cassandra Morton; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.

Funeral services will be held at 1pm Friday, October 26, 2012 at Union Baptist Church with Reverend Dr. Sir Walter Mack, Jr. officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. The family visitation will be held from 12noon until 1pm on Friday at the Church.
