Mrs. Betty Jean Summers Pinkney, 85, departed this life and went to be with the Lord on Wednesday morning, March 15, 2017. She was the youngest child of eight siblings born to the late Hallie Lee Summers and Mable Scales Summers on September 21, 1931 and grew up in the Piney Grove Community on Indiana Avenue. She retired from Thomasville Furniture Company. She was a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church. Betty was married to Allen Wilson Pinkney, Sr. and to that union 5 children were born. She was preceded in death by her husband and her daughter, Marilyn P. McKnight. She is survived by 4 children, Chlories P. Shore, Roberta Alene P. Wilkins (Nathan), Allen W. Pinkney, Jr. (Sharon), and Kermit K. Pinkney, Sr. (Norene); son-in-law, James McKnight; sisters, Ruby S. Peterson and Lucy S. Brooks; 16 grandchildren; 36 great grandchildren; and a host of other family and friends. Funeral services will be held at 1:00pm Thursday, March 23, 2017 at Mt. Zion Baptist Church, 950 File Street with Dr. Serenus T. Churn, Sr. officiating. Interment will follow in Piedmont Memorial Gardens. The family visitation will be held from 12:00noon until 1:00pm on Thursday at the Church.
