Obituary

Betty Jo Legrand was born July 3, 1932 in Winston-Salem, NC to Kelvin and Mabel Grier Legrand.  She was a resident of Winston-Salem, NC for the majority of her life.  Betty transitioned on September 8, 2021 at her residence, 4575 Westhill Place, Kernersville, NC.

She attended the Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Public Schools. Betty moved to New Jersey where she worked for a while, became homesick, and returned back to Winston-Salem, NC.  She then went to work for the Winston-Salem Transit Authority for 35 years before retiring in 2001.

Betty was a longtime member of The Eastern Star Queen of Olympic #620.  She loved to shop and travel, but most of all nothing gave her more pleasure than loving and caring for her great-grandchildren.

Betty Jo was preceded in death by her parents.

Betty is survived by her daughter, Sheila L. Legrand; two sisters, Barbara Cooper of Newark, NJ and Bertha (Warren) Sizemore of Kernersville, NC; grandsons, Cartouche Legrande of Virginia Beach, VA, Anthony (Maria) Smith, and Michael Smith of Winston-Salem, NC; granddaughter, Latrice (Hiram) Ballestress of Winston-Salem, NC; great-granddaughters, Chuquita (Barry) Minor of High Point, NC, DeLaken Blackwell of Winston-Salem, NC, and Chrystin Smith of Virginia Beach, VA; great-grandsons, Cartouche Legrande, Jr. of Kernersville, NC, Jevante Legrande-US Army of Alaska, De'Vante Legrande-US Army of Poland, Branda Legrande and Chris Legrande both of Winston-Salem, NC; three great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

A viewing will be held from 1:00pm until 6:00pm Sunday, September 19, 2021 at Russell Funeral Home.  Private services will be held Monday, September 20, 2021.  Interment will follow in Oaklawn Memorial Gardens.
