We celebrate the Life of one of the Lord's special people, Betty Lou Harris-Jackson

Betty is known by many as a beautiful person. Family and friends share her signature pink rose, a special rose that never wilts; fully bloomed in all seasons, a sweet fragrance centered in a vase, and placed in the hearts of all who knew her.

Betty Harris-Jackson, daughter of George and Mamie Harris (deceased), was born on March 7, 1938, in Yakima, Washington. She was the sister of Irene Griggs of St. Louis, MO, Patricia Green of Seattle WA, and George Harris, Jr. of St. Louis, MO; granddaughter of Mable Harris (deceased), who did a fine job raising her into a loving, educated and adventurous woman.  Indeed, she was every bit of a refined lady. She was also the mother of two sons, Reverend Dr. Paul A. Lowe, Jr. (LaGail Crews-Lowe, USAF MSgt. retired) of Winston-Salem, North Carolina, and Anthony Lowe, Esq., (Angela Lowe) of Culpepper, Virginia; Little Grandmother to two beautiful granddaughters, Ashton and Ariana Lowe; an adopted mother to many, including daughter, Esther Bryant-Kyles, wife of Reverend Edwin J. Kyles, Jr. (both deceased).

Betty Harris-Jackson was full of joy and an inspiration to many. Her smile, so bright, would shine day and night.

Betty achieved many accomplishments and awards for her work in education, her church, and our community. She also enjoyed hunting for antiques and traveling within the states and abroad. She always believed that education opens doors to lifelong opportunities. Betty was a leading educator, kindergarten through first grade, retiring after many years with the Seattle Public Schools.  In addition, her early career included teaching in the Distar Preschool Program and Mt. Zion Baptist Church Preschool. Also, she was the recipient of the Who's Who Among America's Teacher Award, 2002.

Betty's educational footprint includes Adams Elementary School in Yakima, WA; Washington Jr. High in Yakima, WA; Holy Rosary High School in Moxee, WA; a Bachelor of Arts degree in Early Childhood Education from Seattle University in Seattle, WA; and a Master of Arts in Education from Heritage College in Toppenish, WA.

Many knew that Betty was one of Washington's leading Barack Obama supporters, working 40+ hours a week in 2008 with the Obama Campaign. She was recognized for her contributions to President Obama's election by being selected to be a special delegate to the 2008 Democratic National Convention in Denver, Colorado, and attendee at the 2009 Inauguration of President Barack Obama. She was also an honored guest at the Inaugural Neighborhood Ball for President Obama in 2009.  Betty also received the Warren G. Magnuson Award (Volunteer of the Year) granted by the Washington State Democrats Party in 2008.

Betty's community service extended to the NAACP as a Life Member and active, supportive member of the Central Area Senior Center.

Above all, Betty was a faithful servant of the Lord Jesus Christ and an outstanding member of First African Methodist Episcopal Church (FAME).  She served as an Ordained Deaconess, FAME Missionary Society Chaplain, and Stewardess Board Number.

As Betty's health began to decline in the Fall of 2022, she began a new chapter and moved to Winston Salem, North Carolina where she enjoyed living in the Arbor Acres community.  Betty departed her earthly journey on Friday morning, May 3, 2024.

The Family of Senator Paul Lowe Jr. regretfully announces the passing of his dear Mother, Betty L. Harris-Jackson.

Please keep the Lowe and extended families in your prayers.
