Mother Betty Jean Hairston entered into eternal peace in the early morning on Tuesday, May 27, 2014 at her home in W-S, NC. Mother Betty was born on August 15, 1935 in W-S, NC to the late James and Gladys Hairston. She was educated in the WS/FC School system attending both Columbia Heights High School and Atkins High School. She worked for many years as a Patient Care Assistant for the duration of her career. She was a faithful member of Amazing Faith Apostolic Church. Mother Betty had a loving and generous heart, and was a cheerful giver to her family.
She was predeceased by her sisters, Elder Bertha Barksdale and Mother Ruby Ruth.
She leaves her loving memories to be cherished by her loving sister, Pastor Viola H. Sterling of the city; daughter, Vanessa Gibbs and husband, Anthony Gibbs of Atlanta, GA; grandchildren, Temeka L. Abbott, Edward Abbott, Jr., and Tiesha Abbott all of Atlanta, GA, and Raquan Abbott of Miami, FL; great-grandchildren, Edward Abbott, III of Reston, VA, Morgan Moore, London Abbott, Zoe Moore, and Farrah Collins all of Atlanta, GA; devoted former son-in-law, Edward Abbott, Sr. of the city; and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.
Homegoing services will be held at 1pm Monday, June 2, 2014 at the Russell Funeral Home Chapel, 822 Carl Russell Ave. W-S, NC 27101. Interment will follow in Piedmont Memorial Gardens, 3663 Piedmont Memorial Dr. W-S, NC 27107. The family will receive friends and loved ones during a visitation held from 12noon until 1pm on Monday at the Chapel.
