Bessie Mae Chandler Mickens, 73, daughter of Rainey and Bessie B. Chandler, was born June 15, 1942 in Battleboro, North Carolina. She passed away on Sunday, January 24, 2016, at Moses Cone Hospital in Greensboro, North Carolina.

Bessie, affectionately known as "Mummy" by her children, was preceded in death by her parents.

Bessie is survived by her children, Preston (Beatrice), Prescott, Prestina Hazlett, Prenessa (David) Lowery, Prenard (Omorlie) Mickens, and Michael C. Cunningham; two brothers, Rainey (Jordina) Chandler and Wayne Hill; eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; and many other wonderful relatives and dear friends to cherish loving memories.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00pm on Friday, January 29, 2016 at Mount Zion Baptist Church, Winston-Salem. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. The family visitation will be held from11:30am until 1:00pm on Friday at the Church.
