Mrs. Bessie Louise "Lou" Duckett, 84 of Winston-Salem, passed away April 25, 2014 at Regency Care of Clemmons. She was born April 10, 1930 in Garner NC to Vassie and Stella Jones. Louise graduated from Garner High School and moved to Winston-Salem where she met and married Foster Duckett.
Lou was a faithful member of Greater Cleveland Avenue Christian Church for almost 50 years where she was active in the Christian Women Fellowship and Hospitality Club. She was also a member of the Young Matrons Flower Club, First Thursday Senior Club and the Carver School Road Senior Citizens Club. She was active in many other capacities until her health declined. She worked as a domestic worker in Winston-Salem in the 1950's and 1960's. Lou spent time at Davis Department Store and Wachovia Bank for many years before becoming a dietary aide for Forsyth Memorial Hospital. She enjoyed cooking and being a homemaker, but most importantly, she was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister and friend to all.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Foster B Duckett; parents, Vassie and Stella; and siblings Hugh Jones, William Banks and Burncinie Jones.
Surviving are her 4 children, Fred (Kim) Duckett of Atlanta GA, Mark "Tony" Duckett of the home, Karen (Jean) Dominique, and Donna Duckett of Winston-Salem; six grandchildren, Tahir Duckett of Washington, DC, Bilal Duckett of Charlotte, NC, Alexis Duckett of Chapel Hill, NC, Sierra Duckett, Pierre Dominique and Sydney Dominique all of Winston-Salem, NC; one brother, Leroy Jones of Garner, NC; very special friends, Mattie Glenn, Barbara Hayes, Doris Mosley, and Burt Clinkscales; and a host of numerous other relatives.
Funeral services will be held at 2pm Wednesday, April 30, 2014 at Greater Cleveland Avenue Christian Church with Bishop Sheldon McCarter officiating. Burial will follow in Piedmont Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 1:30pm until 2pm on Wednesday at the Church.
