In Loving Memory of Bertha Cleo Coleman

Bertha Cleo Coleman, a native of Blair, South Carolina, in Fairfield County, was born on March 15, 1941, to the late John Merdis Coleman and Daphne Cleola McConnell Coleman. She was the sixth and youngest of six children born to this union.

Bertha was educated in Fairfield County and graduated from Liston High School. At an early age, she attended Weeping Mary Baptist Church. Later in life, Bertha relocated to Winston-Salem, North Carolina, where she made her home and became a beloved member of the community.

Bertha was a dedicated employee of Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist Hospital, for 20 plus years. She attended Union Baptist Church for many years, where she touched the lives of many through her faith and kindness.

After a long and courageous battle with illness and the challenges associated with dialysis, Bertha peacefully succumbed to her illness on September 7, 2026

Bertha was preceded in death by her brothers, Mr. John Howard Coleman and Mr. McConnell Lee Coleman; and her sister, Mrs. Mattie “Novella” Coleman Wilson.

She leaves to cherish her precious memory two sisters, Tina Coleman (Rev. William L. Sr.) Owens and Edna Coleman; two brothers, Arthur Coleman (Pearlie), all of Winston-Salem, North Carolina, and Young “Olanda” Coleman (Loretta) of Chicago, Illinois.

She also leaves special loved ones, sister-in-law, Pearlie Coleman, Tonya Watts (Victor) and niece, Tammy Blue; along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws, friends, and loved ones from near and far.

Bertha will be remembered for the love she shared with her family, the friendships she cultivated throughout her life, her dedication to her work and church, and the strength and courage she demonstrated throughout her journey. Though she is no longer with us in body, her memory will forever remain in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.

A viewing will be held from 1:00pm until 5:00pm Friday September 11, 2026 at Russell Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be held at 12:00noon Saturday, September 12, 2026 at the Russell Funeral Home Chapel. The family visitation will be held from 11:00am until 12:00noon on Saturday at the Chapel. Interment will be held Tuesday, September 15, 2026 in Parklawn Memorial Gardens.
