Bertha Lee Matthews Clinkscales was born in Bishopville, SC on April 8, 1932 to Mary Mickle Fuller & Allen Byrd.  She left her earthly home for her eternal home on June 16, 2017 at Forest Heights Assisted Living.

Bertha, at an early age, moved to Winston-Salem with her mother where she helped raise her siblings, James Earl Fuller, Ruthie Mae Fuller, Johnny (Kay) Fuller, and Anthony Fuller.  In 1952 she married her husband, Robert P. Matthews (1989).  She retired from the former AMP Inc. (Tyco) after 30 years of service.

Bertha later remarried and along with her husband, Louie Clinkscales (2001) was a member of Greater Church where she worked in several positions there including Deaconess.  Due to her declining health, Mother Clinkscales couldn't visit her church as she liked, but always kept in touch with close friends that she had made over the years.

In addition to her parents, siblings, and husbands, she was preceded in death by her children, Paul Matthews and Cynthia Matthews.

Bertha's pride and joy were her children, Florence (Franklin) Ross, Roslyn (Windell) Foote, Marilyn Jackson, and Kenneth Matthews; she doted on her grandchildren, Kenneth Williams, Crystal Ross, Nicki Ellis, Kevin Matthews, Brandon Jackson, Latoya (Jason) Samuels, Shamika (Devonn) Sims, Tia Jackson, and Jenelle Foote; she had 15 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great-grandchild; special daughter-in-law, Darlene Clinkscales; and numerous family and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 3:30pm Wednesday, June 21, 2017 at the Russell Funeral Home Chapel. The family visitation will be held from 3:00pm until 3:30pm on Wednesday at the Chapel.
