Mr. Bernard Hampton Watkins, Sr., 76, was born in Winston Salem NC, on May 7, 1949. He departed this life peacefully on Thursday, May 22, 2025 at Novant Health Forsyth Medical Center following an extended period of illness.
Bernard's journey through life was marked by determination, kindness, and a deep commitment to his loved ones. He received his education from Carver High School in Winston Salem, NC and furthered his skills at Forsyth Technical Community College, specializing in Electrical Engineering in Winston Salem NC. Bernard retired from RJ Reynolds Tobacco Company with 35 years of service at Bailey Power Plant. Bernard enjoyed riding his Harley-Davidson Motorcycle and keeping his cars clean and was a member of Carolina Cruisers Motorcycle Club.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Ruth H. Watkins and father, Samuel H. Watkins; brother, Donald E. Watkins; sisters, Aurelia W. Kennedy, Ruby Lee W. Clyburn, and Virginia W. Dixon; his son, Bernard H. Watkins Jr.; and daughter Melissa Watkins.
Bernard is survived by his former wife, Beverly M. Turner of Winston Salem, NC; beloved children, Tania Stafford of Miami, FL and Bradley H. Watkins of Atlanta, GA; granddaughter, Lauren Ashley Holder of the city; great-grands, Royce Carter Striblin and Aubrey Chanel Striblin; his brothers, James (Viola) Watkins, Ruben J. (Patsy) Watkins, Calvin S. (Jean) Watkins, and Roy H. (Lorraine) Watkins all of the city; his sister, Martha R. (Essex) Williams of High Point, NC; a close friend, Alfreda Floyd and partner, Lydia Jessup; and a large extended family including cousins, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Bernard will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. Though he may not be with us in person, his memory will endure and his legacy of love will continue. May the memories shared and the love experienced bring comfort to those who mourn.
A viewing will be held from 1:00pm until 5:00pm Thursday, May 29, 2025 at Russell Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be held at 12noon Friday, May 30, 2025 at the Russell Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow in Gardens of Memory, Walkertown, NC. The family visitation will be held from 11:30am until 12noon on Friday at the Chapel.
