Mr. Bernard Scales, Sr., 77, known as "Preacher", was born to the late Viola Mason Scales and Clarence Cagney in Forsyth County, NC. He passed away December 6, 2012.
Mr. Scales attended the W-S/Forsyth County public schools and graduated from Atkins High School. He retired from RJR Tobacco Company.
Mrs. Scales' spiritual nurturing was cultivated at Macedonia Holiness where he served as a Deacon, member of the Usher Board, Brotherhood and Missionaries.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Scales was preceded in death by his wife, Josephine; daughter, Bernitha Scales; one brother, Robert Scales; and two sisters, Bernice Kearse and Marian Collins.
He is survived by two daughters, a devoted caregiver, Cheryl Scales of the home and Linda Scales of the city; one son, Bernard Scales, Jr. (Gloria); grandchildren, a devoted caregiver, Antonio Bennett, Elijah and Joshua Scales of the city, Bernard Scales, II of FL, and Jasmine Scales of TX; one step-daughter, Francena Hawkins; two step-sons, Steven (Angela) Solomon and Dale Miller of the city; six sisters-in-law, Dr. Manderline Scales, Juanita Richardson, Mary Coplin, Annie (Ervin) Clinton, and Lillian (Kelly) McQueen all of the city, and Carolyn (James) Brazelton of Atlanta, GA; special friends, Henry (Belinda) Murden and Kenneth Mack; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends.
Funeral services will be held at 12:30pm Tuesday, December 11, 2012 at Macedonia Holiness Church of God, 4111 Whitfield Road W-S, NC with Rev. Dr. Robert L. Wise, Sr. officiating. Interment will follow in Piedmont Memorial Gardens. The family visitation will be held from 11:30am until 12:30pm on Tuesday at the Church.
