Benjamin Franklin Hughes, affectionately known to family as "Uncle Boo," went to be with the Lord on August 2, 2025, after an extended stay at Trinity Elms Health and Rehab in Clemmons, NC, and under brief supervision by Trellis Supportive Care in Winston Salem, NC.
He was born on May 20, 1943, in Winston Salem, NC, to Curtis and Vester Bailey Hughes of Walnut Cove, NC.
He graduated from London High School, Walnut Cove, NC, in 1962. He was a member of St Andrew's United Methodist Church in Winston Salem, NC. He had a passion for music and sports, including softball, basketball, tennis and football. He passionately cheered on his favorite team, the 2025 Super Bowl winning Philadelphia Eagles.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his five brothers, Charles, Harry, Curtis McDonald, Joseph, and William Hughes; and his sister, Alberta Hughes.
He is survived by his wife, Peggy Meeks Hughes; daughter, Tashara Hughes Williams; three sons, Roderick Riley, Monterio Riley, and Marshay Denard Hughes Peurifoy; three sisters, Molline Hughes Stover, Barbara Hughes, and Delores Kay; son-in-law, Jayson Williams; he was a loving grandfather to his grandchildren and a loving uncle to his nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be held at 11:00am Saturday, September 6, 2025 in Fairview Cemetery, 553 Mitchell St. Walnut Cove, NC.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent in his memory to either Trinity Elms Health and Rehab of Clemmons, NC, St Andrew's United Methodist Church of Winston Salem, NC, or Trellis Supportive Care of Winston Salem, NC.
