Obituary

Benjamin Franklin Carpenter, Jr. peacefully departed this life on earth at his home, Thursday, April 11, 2024, in Charlotte, North Carolina. He was best known by all his friends, family and loved ones by "Benjie." Benjie was born December 12,1955 in Winston Salem, North Carolina to Benjamin Franklin Carpenter Sr. and Josephine Murray Carpenter who preceded his death. He was also preceded in death by his only sister, Andrea Monica Carpenter.

Benjie, along with his siblings and cousins, left behind a legacy of community and adventure while growing up in Winston Salem. Shortly after graduating from East Forsyth High School, Benjie had a short stent at UNC Chapel Hill, where he gained his love for the Tarheels. Shortly after attending college, Benjie eventually brought his endeavors to Charlotte where his career and impact on his community took off. One of the greatest successes of his time was opening Shear Illusions and becoming a stylist extraordinaire. Benjie was one of the most sought-after stylists in the Charlotte area, paving the way for a multitude of stylists. Many alike have sat in Benjie's chair gaining wisdom and a lifelong friend along the way. Benjie won many awards; however, most recently, he had the distinct honor of receiving The Trailblazer Award for all his accomplishments in the hair styling industry in Charlotte.

Benjie was not only a successful entrepreneur, but he was a devoted father, grandfather, and friend. Benjie never met a stranger. He took great pride in ensuring all his loved ones had a good time and tried something new. He spent a lot of his free time on Lake Norman with his children and friends. Benjie taught a lot of his friends and family the true lake lifestyle, creating lifelong memories that will never be forgotten. Benjie will always be remembered and admired for his adventurous, fun-loving nature.

Benjie leaves memories of his life to be cherished and admired by his two children: Carley Carpenter-Mason (Richaad) of Dunwoody, GA and Benjamin Franklin Carpenter, III of Tucker, GA. He also leaves behind his three beautiful grandchildren who were the apples of his eye: Aria Rose-Tane Mason, Ritch Franklin Grady Mason, and Harper R'moni Gray Mason;  his former wife, Tane Carpenter.  Benjie leaves behind four devoted brothers, Benny Woffard (Virginia), Anthony D. Carpenter (Geraldine), Vincent T. Carpenter (former wife, Pam Jinwright-Carpenter), and Curtiss W. Carpenter.

Benjie also leaves to mourn his passing his nieces: Shantae, Kennedy, Taylor, Ashia, Venetrese, Ventrice and Arnita; nephews: Austin and Anthony; aunts and uncles: Sarah Hicks, Martha Carpenter, Peggy Carpenter, Prelow Carpenter (Marie), Alvin Carpenter (Mae Kathryn), and Robert Carpenter (Elsie); and a plethora of wonderful cousins and friends.

Lastly, and most importantly, Benjie loved to ride his motorcycle. Nothing could stop him from loving the thrill of the open road. He lived his life to the absolute fullest and didn't leave any stone unturned. His legacy will live on through everyone he encountered.
