Obituary

Belinda Faye Jefferson entered the world on November 8, 1953. This beautiful baby girl was born to her late parents, Esther Elizabeth and Clyde Littlejohn Jefferson in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.

During her 70 years of life, she left numerous footprints throughout the city and on the hearts of beloved family and friends. She departed this life on January 19, 2024, after a period of illness.

She attended Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools, including Carver High School where she was a dancer in the band and gun bearer. She received her high school diploma from North Forsyth High School in June of 1972.

She advanced her education at Miller Motte Business College, graduating magna cum laude in 1988 and Carolina Beauty College. She was able to complete her studies while working full-time and raising five children.

She worked with the Forsyth County Health Department and Novant Health as a home health aide for 23 years before retiring. She also worked at Great Clips for Hair for 15 years. She re-entered the workforce as a bus driver for Winston-Salem Forsyth County Schools for more than 10 years and collected numerous awards before a second retirement.

Her faith was always a major anchor in life. As a child, she attended Mars Hill Baptist Church. As an adult, she was a dedicated member of New Unity Missionary Baptist Church for many years and very active in the ministry. She served as Sunday School Superintendent, Vacation Bible School organizer and the Bible Quiz Bowl Coach. For the latter, she was very proud to lead her team to victory over other local churches for the Inter-Church Bible Quiz competition of the Guilford Baptist Association.

She joined St. Peters Church and World Outreach Center in 2008 and worked with the street ministry, bookstore team and participated in numerous Connect Group functions.

Before her illness, Belinda loved to travel. She visited London, Paris, Jamaica, and the Bahamas, in addition to multiple states across the country. She also enjoyed family gatherings and having a good time with dancing and laughter. Some of her other personal hobbies included crocheting, crossword puzzles and card games.

Belinda was one proud mother and grandmother, and in her life, she showcased an unmatched degree of strength. She always said that she would give out before giving up and she lived out this motto until her very last breath.

She is truly loved and will be deeply missed by her children, grands, great-grands, extended family and many others who had the pleasure of knowing her.

In addition to her parents, Belinda was preceded in earthly transition by 3 brothers, Clyde L. Jefferson, Jr., Cecil R. Jefferson, and Terrence M. Jefferson; son-in-love, Tracey D. Meredith; and grandson, Kairo A. McGuire.

She leaves pieces of herself with her children, Sonia R. Young, Dedrick A. Muhammad (Tarmira), Kiana N. Young, Patrice C. Young, and Terri Y. McGuire (Donté); grandchildren, Sonaia Young, Tanae Brown, Jalil Young, Tynetta Muhammad, Tajah Muhammad, Akhir W. Muhammad, Kion Young, Kier Meredith, Jayla and Janiya Young, Jaiden Johnson and Kash McGuire; sisters, Barbara Goodin and Patrice M.
