Obituary

"Come to me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest."

On Sunday, March 6 th , 2022 Belinda J. Hardy transitioned from her earthly body and gained her heavenly wings. She was born in Winston Salem, NC on May 14 th , 1954 to the late Edd & Sylvine Hardy.

Belinda graduated from Atkins High School in 1972 and earned an Associate's Degree in Business Administration from Rutledge College in 1974. She was employed with the City of Winston-Salem (Recreation Department) c. 1990 and retired in June 2020. During her time of working with the City of Winston-Salem, she enjoyed teaching and participating in extra curriculum activities such as calligraphy, ceramics, Girl Scouts and many more. In 1994 she was awarded City Employee of the year. Belinda was also employed with Budd Security Services for 38 years and Shipman Family Home Care for 20 years. Belinda was a dedicated member of Friendship Missionary Baptist Church until her health declined. She was engaged in several ministries within the church. She loved singing with the Spiritual Ensembles and The Big Four Choir, participating in the Calendar Tea, campaigning for Ms. Friendship and so much more. Belinda will be remembered for her heartfelt conversations, strutting through the church aisles with her unique style of hats, astonishing shoes, fancy bags, matching outfits and alluring nails which made everyone stop and admire her style. SHE WAS TRULY A CLASSY DIVA! Her hobbies include bowling, cooking, crocheting, shopping, playing dominoes, almost anything that involves competing, spending time with her recreational family (aka Ms. B) and sharing jokes. Most of all, Belinda had lots of love for her children, grandchildren, brothers, sisters, and her entire family.

In addition to her parents Belinda was preceded in death by three brothers, Edd Hardy III, James Hardy, and Frederick Hardy; and one sister, Dorothy Hardy.

Belinda leaves to cherish her companion, Marvin Fulwood; five beautiful children, Ricky (Crystal) Hardy, Y'denia (Dwayne) McNair, Tonya Hardy, DeShawn (Nioka) Hardy, and Amanda (Byron) Hardy all of Winston-Salem, NC; eighteen grandchildren and twenty great-grandchildren; nine siblings, Barbara Simmons, David Hardy, Brenda Hardy, Betty Galloway, Clifford Hardy, Sylvine (Clarence) Jones, and Donald (Annette) Hardy all of Winston-Salem, NC,  and Mary Freeman of Upper Marlboro, MD; one bonus son, James Gladden; a special niece, Shelita Williams- who she raised as a daughter; one aunt, Effie (Henry) Lee; two uncles, William (Jannie) Acker and James Acker all of SC; and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

A viewing will be held from 1:00pm until 5:00pm Friday, March 11, 2022 at Russell Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00pm Saturday, March 12, 2022 at Friendship Baptist Church with Pastor Lester Boyd officiating.  Interment will follow in Oaklawn Memorial Gardens. The family visitation will be held from 12:30pm until 1:00pm Saturday at the Church.
