Mrs. Beetie Scales Palmer of 395 McGill Drive passed away December 11, 2009 at her residence. She was born December 6, 1945 in Henry County, Virginia to the late Joe Henry Scales and the late Maggie P. Hunt. She graduated from Carver High School Class of 1964. She was a former employee of Wachovia Bank in Trust and retired from RJR Tobacco Company. She was a member of Piney Grove Baptist Church where she served on the Inspirational Choir.
She was married to the late Melvin B. Palmer, Sr. and to this union two children were born. She was also preceded in death by her sister, Ruth H. Sims.
Mrs. Palmer is survived by sons, Melvin (Michelle) Palmer, Jr. of Winston-Salem, NC and Terry Palmer of the home; grandsons, Ryan and Brendan Palmer of Winston-Salem, NC; brothers, Leon (Scarlet) Scales of Winston-Salem, NC and Carl (Lydia) Scales of Maryland; sisters, Dorothy H. (David) Manigault of Winston-Salem, NC, Christine H. (Ronald) Webb of Atlanta, GA, and Naomi H. (Jerrold) Miles of Winston-Salem, NC: her mother-in-law, Gladys Palmer; sister-in-law, Gwen Roseboro; brother-in-law, Albert and Ira Palmer; devoted friends, Munirah Razzak and Debra Holmes; and a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, relatives, and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 1pm Tuesday, December 15, 2009 at Piney Grove Baptist Church with Reverend Dr. James F. Linville officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. The family visitation will be held from Noon until1pm on Tuesday at the Church.
