Barbara Gwyn White passed away Thursday, June 3, 2010 at her home. Barbara was born August 23, 1942 in Winston-Salem, NC to the late Bert and Margaret Carruthers. Barbara graduated from Atkins High School.
She was a faithful member of Diggs Memorial United Holy Church where she was a member of many auxiliaries in the church including the Pastor Aid, Mother's Board, Usher Ministry, and the Bereavement Ministry. Barbara was a member of the Beauty of the West #36, the Belview Community Club, a faithful neighborhood watcher, and she loved to work in her yard.
Barbara was employed at RJ Reynolds Tobacco Company for 25 years until she retired.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, George Gwyn and James Johnson; one sister, Mattie Hatten; two nieces, Geraldine Hubbard and Brenda Jones; and one nephew, Tyrone Foy.
Barbara was united to James White. They were blessed with four children. She leaves to mourn three daughters, Princess (Roland) Smith, Valecia (James) Lamont, and Palmer White all of Winston-Salem, NC; one son, James White, Jr. of Winston-Salem, NC; twelve grandchildren, Monchaily Wall, RoShonda Smith, Gabrielle Greene, Jameciah White, D'Arby Lamont, Natisha Greene, Daqui Lamont, Kiara Greene, Jameca White, DaKota Lamont, Jasmine Greene, and Jamel Williams; one great-granddaughter, Miracle Wall; one brother, Thomas "Babe" Gwyn; four sisters, Alberta Foy, Queen (Hubert) Kelly, Gaudine "Jack" Gwyn all of Winston-Salem, NC and Marie "Tiny" (John Henry) Thomas of Brooklyn, NY; one brother-in-law; four sisters-in-law; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 1pm Thursday, June 10, 2010 at First Waughtown Baptist Church with Elder Lamont Williams officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. The family visitation will be held from 12noon until 1pm on Thursday at the Church.
