Barbara Ann Ross Oliver was born June 30,1942 in Winston Salem, NC. Early in her childhood the family moved to Brooklyn, NY.
"Bobbi", as she was affectionately called, went on to attend Clara Barton High School with a focus on Nursing. After graduating, she worked at Kings County Hospital for many years before getting married and moving to Crewe, VA. When her mother and grandmother began to get on in age, Bobbi returned to Brooklyn to help with their care. She eventually moved them back to Winston Salem to live out their last days among family and long time friends.
Bobbi worked in the Dermatology Office at Baptist Hospital as a Phototherapist Technician for over 13 years. After her mother and grandmother were called home, Bobbi moved into an Independent Living Facility where she enjoyed an already tight bond with her cousin, Delores Hawkins "Lil Bit" and built a serious sistership with Ms. Charlene & Ms. Sarah Grant who were instrumental in her care as she began to ail. They would shop, craft and sit outside together - you rarely saw Bobbi without one of them by her side. The real troopers and guardian angels in Bobbi's life were her cousins, Carolyn Logan "Junebug", Turquoise Erving "Turq" and Ron Tate, who stepped in and handled things because her immediate family was far away, and without them she would've been lost.
Bobbi loved music and she loved to dance. If there was a party and there was good music, you would definitely find Bobbi on the dance floor. In addition to music & dancing, Bobbi enjoyed crocheting, sewing, crossword puzzles and in recent years, card making. There was one thing that Bobbi loved above all else and that was her family. She would speak often of her "daughters" who were her nieces, Terrie & Angie, and she and her brothers were tight like glue. She was looking forward to one last family reunion with everyone getting together to just have fun.
Bobbi transitioned peacefully in her sleep on September 8, 2020.
She was preceded in death by her mother and father, Willnette Ross & James L .Ross, Sr.; her grandmother, Geraldine Littlejohn; husband, Rudy Oliver; sister and brother, Judith Lynn and Cornelius Ross; and a nephew, Falim Jones.
She is survived by her beloved brothers, James L. Ross (Gwen) and Melvin J. Ross (Robin); her sisters, Robin Ross Holt (Nathan), Jacqueline Jones, and Joyce Hughes; her nieces and nephews, Therese Carter (James), Angela Coakley, Anthony D. Ross, Dakeeta Hunter (Marvin), Nadeja Ross, Chelsea Ross, Jaden Ross, Jada Ross, Tawanda Tucker (William), Yolanda Worley, Samuel Ross, Nathaniel Ross, Darrick Worley, Tony Hughes, Sherry Hughes, James Hughes, Tracy Hughes, Joyce Ross, Marsha Ross-Short (Michael), Michelle Ross-Miles (Anthony), Michael Gonsalves, Tiffany Gonsalves, and Latonya Jones; her sister cousin, Carolyn Sims; her special grandniece, Maija Ross-Hall; and many, many cousins and dear friends.
Bobbi will always be remembered as the family comedian. She could make you laugh until your sides hurt. Bobbi was a light that could not be dimmed and she is greatly missed.
Private memorial services will be held Monday, September 28, 2020.
