Barbara Anderson Lane departed this life on February 21, 2014 at Oak Forest Health and Rehabilitation after an extended illness. The oldest child of the late Clarence C and Viola Mackey Anderson, she was born on July 22, 1936 in Winston-Salem, NC and spent most of her life in the city.

She graduated from Carver High School and later earned a degree in Nursing from North Carolina A&T University. Barbara practiced her profession for more than 30 years in the states of North Carolina and Maryland. She retired in the mid-90's due to health issues but remained a nurse-at-heart until her passing.

In addition to her parents, Barbara was predeceased by a son, Rodney B Young in October 2007; daughter, Robin Young Ashford in October 2011; and brothers, Calvin E and Robert E Anderson.

She is survived by her DEVOTED son, Rencel L Jones of Charlotte, NC; sister, Betty Anderson Dent of Piscataway, NJ; brother, Jerry W Anderson and sister-in-law, Paula McCoy Anderson of the city; aunt, Bernice M Brown of the city; daughter-in-law, Joan Carter Young of the city; several nieces, nephews, cousins and many devoted friends.

Barbara was an avid collector of angel figurines and held a firm belief that angels surrounded her. Her belief was demonstrated by the extraordinary love and support extended to her by an "army" of friends who visited her frequently throughout her stay in extended care facilities over the past few years. Our family is eternally grateful to ALL of her angels for the love and many kind expressions extended to her during this time!
"Barb" will forever remain in our hearts as a devoted mother, sister, daughter and friend --as the Creator grants her eternal rest.

Funeral services will be held at 12noon Thursday, February 27, 2014 at Galilee Missionary Baptist Church with Rev. Dr. Nathan Scovens officiating. The family visitation will be held from 11:30am until 12noon on Thursday at the Church.
