Obituary

Master Gardener and stranger to none, Barbara Ann Hodge Griffin, 77 passed away on October 25, 2012 after a short and very courageous battle with cancer. She was born on April 7, 1935 in Winston-Salem to the late Charlie Samuel Hodge and Mozell Mumford Hodge. She attended Atkins High School, graduated from Lincoln Academy in Kings Mountain, NC class of 1953 in which she was a cheerleader. She also attended Winston-Salem Teachers College (WSSU).

Barbara possessed a deep love of life, faith, knowledge, and family. She enjoyed spending time with her family, reading, gardening, doing art work, singing and volunteering. She will be remembered for her quick wit, spirit, foresight, a great conversationalist and of course her winning smile.

Barbara was preceded in death by her granddaughter, Brooke Danielle "Danny" Griffin.

Barbara leaves to cherish her precious and loving memories her devoted and loving husband of 58 years, William "Head" Griffin; her sons, Wm. "Peabody" Griffin, Jr. of Winston-Salem, NC and Carl C. Griffin of Washington, DC; her granddaughter, Christina Chanei Griffin of Orlando, FL; her sister, Ella Jean Hodge of Washington, DC; step-mother, Adeline Hawkins Hodge of Winston-Salem, NC; she also leaves behind very close family members, Theressa DeKale Dubois (Dee Dee) of Washington, DC, Stephanie Hill also of Washington, DC, and very close lifetime friends, Peggy Webster, Mary Ford, Eloise Duncan, Joseph and Gladene Adams along with a host of nieces, nephews and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 11am Wednesday, October 31, 2012 at Saint Paul United Methodist Church with Reverend Donald Jenkins officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. The family visitation will be held from 10am until 11am on Wednesday at the Church.

The family would like to express their gratitude to Dr. Helen Pierce, Deloris White and Stephanie Porter for their over whelming care to Barbara. We also wish to thank the staff of Trinity Glen Rehabilitation & Nursing Care of Winston-Salem, NC.
