Barbara Jean Ensley Green has gone to be with her Heavenly Father on the 4th day of March 2010. She was born on March 3, 1931 to William and Nora Ensley of Thomasville, NC. She is the eldest of five siblings, William Ensley of Washington, DC, Peggy Martin of Burgaw, NC, Donald Ensley of Centerreach, NY, and Brenda Scott of Clayton, NJ.
She attended Palmer Memorial Institute in Sedalia, NC. While at Palmer, she played at Carnegie Hall with the school orchestra. Upon her graduation at Palmer, she attended North Carolina Central University and Winston-Salem State University. In 1951, she united in marriage with George "Coach" Green until his death in 2002. While married to George, they had four children, Debra (Charles) Surles, Jawaad (Alice) Abdul-Malik, Karla (Azeem) Holman, and Bernadette Green.
Barbara was a retiree with the Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools. She was active in many community and religious organizations.
In addition to her children and siblings she is survived by twenty-two grandchildren; twenty great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, and close friends.
A funeral mass will be held at Noon Monday, March 8, 2010 at St. Benedicts the Moor Catholic Church. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. A family visitation will be held from 3:30pm until 5pm on Sunday, March 7, 2010 at the Russell Funeral Home Chapel.
