Audrey Daye Lipscomb Hicks departed this life and went home to be with the Lord on Monday, July 24, 2017 after an extended illness. She was born on June 12, 1934 to the late Rev. Laddie Elvin Daye & Annie Rogers Daye of Durham, NC. She was educated in the Durham County School System where she graduated from Hillside High School in 1952.
In her first union of marriage to Mr. Lee Lipscomb, two sons were born: Ronald Lee Lipscomb (deceased) and Barry Vincent Lipscomb. In her second union of marriage to Carl T. Hicks Sr., a third son, Carl T. Hicks, Jr. was born.
In 1965, the family moved to Winston-Salem, where Audrey was employed as a teacher's assistant in the Winston-Salem Forsyth County Schools. In 1969, she joined the staff of Winston Salem State University as the Assistant Superintendent of the bookstore, where she remained until her retirement in 1989.
Audrey was a committed member of First Calvary Baptist Church. She was a faithful choir member, who in her prime led the song, "Lord I've Tried". Audrey loved her church, serving under the leadership of Rev. W.L. Wilson, Rev. A.T. Griffey, Rev. Hightower, Rev. Calvin Runnels, and Rev. Derwin Montgomery. Even when her health began to fail, she looked forward to visitation services from the church deacons.
She leaves to cherish her memory her husband of 52 years, Carl T. Hicks Sr.; two sons, Barry Vincent (Eleanor) Lipscomb and Carl T. (Monique) Hicks Jr. of Winston-Salem; a sister, Yvonne Daye Daniel of Durham, NC; a brother, Charles Elvin (Jackie) Daye of Brookville, MD; five grandchildren, Sherkineta Lipscomb of Compton, GA, Carletta (Lafayette) Gatling of Chicago, IL, Auburn Hicks of Flushing, NY, Justin Lipscomb of Winston-Salem and Austin Hicks of Winston-Salem; four great-grandchildren, Carlissa "Muffin" Shank, Shania & Tania Lipscomb (twins), and Ka'Nalya Dawson of Thompson, GA; and a host of nieces, cousins, and other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00am Monday, July 31, 2017 at First Calvary Baptist Church with Reverend Derwin Montgomery officiating. Interment will follow in the Hicks Family Cemetery, Oxford, NC. The family visitation will be held from 10:00am until 11:00am on Monday at the Church.
