Artless Elease Carter transitioned into eternal life on Tuesday morning, November 23, 2021 at Atrium Wake Forest Baptist Health in Winston-Salem, NC. Artless was born in Winston-Salem on October 11, 1943 to the late Elease and Luther Carter. Her service is being held on her late mother's birthdate of December 3rd. Artless attended Atkins High School. As a young adult, she worked for General Motors in Detroit Michigan and later worked for Kaba IIco Unican in lock production in Winston-Salem. She retired from Kaba with 45 years of service. Artless was affectionally called mother-in-law by her son-in-law Mike, who also helped faithfully alongside Claire as her caregiver, her driver and most of all her sports buddy. She loved going to sports events with Mike and Claire and enjoyed watching sports with Mike whether it was football or basketball season.
Artless was preceded in death by her parents, Elease and Luther Carter; brothers, Sherman and Tommie Lee; sisters, Deloris and Dorothy Mae. She loved her family deeply and enjoyed family gatherings and reunions. She would often visit relatives weekly and call her family daily to check on them. She was a great friend to many people of all ages and as a result had many friends including those even from her childhood days who loved her greatly and enjoyed being around her. During her illness, she never complained but always shared a smile each day and would ask others how are you doing.
She was a faithful and devoted witness for God for over 50 years and a biblical teacher. She is survived by her loving daughter, Rev. Dr. Claire Robinson (Rev. Dr. Michael Robinson, son-in-law) of Winston-Salem; devoted siblings, sisters, Bleaker Dent of Long Island, NY, Beverly Willis of Raleigh, NC; brother, Edison Carter of Winston-Salem; devoted nephew, Rev. Theopolis Carter of Winston-Salem; and a host of other nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, other relatives and many special friends that she loved and cherished.
Special thanks to the doctors and staff at Atrium Baptist Health and Wellcare Home Services and especially to our family circle of loving caregivers – Rev. Mike, Rev. Thee, Marsha, Angelita, Edison; and sisters Bev and Bleaker, who were always there or just a phone call away when needed.
There are so many people from agencies, churches, family and friends who cared for and showed my mom and our family so much love during her time of illness and truly became our extended family. Thanks for whatever you did through your prayers, cards, calls, meals and words of encouragement and comfort. We love you all and thank you for everything.
