Reverend Arthur Eldridge, a devoted servant of God and a beloved member of the community, peacefully entered eternal rest on Thursday, September 21, 2023. Born on October 4, 1930 in Rural Hall, NC, Arthur was the son of the late Leslie and Alta M. Eldridge.
Arthur's journey through life was marked by his unwavering faith and commitment to his family and community. He graduated from Carver High School in 1947 and furthered his education by completing a few college courses in Charleston, West Virginia. However, his path was altered when he was drafted by the US Army to serve in the Korean War.
After bravely serving his country, Arthur dedicated his career to caring for others. For 31 years, he worked as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) at the VA Medical Center. His selfless devotion to his patients touched the lives of many, leaving an indelible mark on those he served.
Beyond his professional life, Arthur possessed a deep passion for music. An accomplished musician, he demonstrated his talents on the piano and saxophone. Music was a source of joy and solace for Arthur, providing him with a creative outlet to express himself and uplift those around him.
However, Arthur's greatest passion was undoubtedly his faith. From a young age, he fervently pursued a relationship with Christ, forever transforming his life. In 1965, Arthur committed his life to God during a revival in Mt. Airy, NC. From that moment on, he dedicated himself to studying the word, prayer, and serving in the church.
Over the years, Arthur became a valued member of several congregations. He was a past member of St. James United Methodist Church in Rural Hall, NC and the Holiness Church of Christ in Salisbury, NC. At the time of his passing, he proudly served as an Associate Pastor at Antioch Christian Church in Winston-Salem, NC. Arthur's unwavering commitment and spiritual guidance enriched the lives of countless individuals within the congregation.
Arthur was married to the late Ila Hairston for an impressive 65 years, forming a bond that withstood the tests of time. Ila's untimely passing in 2017 left a void in his heart, but their love and devotion remained an inspiration to all who witnessed their union. Together, they raised a beautiful family and planted seeds of love, compassion, and faith that continue to grow and flourish.
In celebrating Arthur's life, we remember the profound impact he had on his children and loved ones. Blessed with longevity, Arthur was preceded in death by his wife, Ila; daughter, Sandra; sisters, Kate, Louise, and Juanita; and brothers, William and Leonard.
He is survived by his children, James (Faye) Eldridge, Rodney (Cathy) Eldridge, Reginald (Tammy) Eldridge, and Kimberly (Joseph) Malachi; Arthur's legacy extends far and wide as he leaves behind 18 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren, and 9 great-great-grandchildren all of whom carry his spirit of love and service.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00pm Saturday, September 30, 2023 at Antioch Christian Church with Reverend J.A. Gilliam officiating. Interment will follow in Crestview Memorial Park, Rural Hall, NC. The family visitation will be held from 12noon until 1:00pm on Saturday at the Church.
