Mrs. Arnise Darlene Middleton, affectionately known as "Shortcake" was born in Winston-Salem, NC on October 15, 1967. She transitioned from labor to reward on the morning of Monday, November 5, 2012.

She was educated in the Winston-Salem/Forsyth county School System and was a graduate of East Forsyth High School, Class of 1975. "Shortcake" was employed at K&W Cafeteria for 32 years. It was at K&W where her nickname "Shortcake" originated.

Arnise was preceded in death by her father, Willie C. Harry; and her brother, Wayne C. Smith.

She leaves to cherish her memories her mother, Ada M. Mosley; son, Marquis Middleton; four sisters, her twin, Denise (James) Mason, Sharon Middleton, and Barbara Mosley all of W-S, NC and Sadie Belle of Philadelphia, PA; three brothers, David "Red" Middleton, Alvin "Chuck" Middleton, and Neal Mosley, Jr.; her companion and partner of over 20 years, Danny Rhymes; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends.

Funeral services will be held at 12noon Friday, November 9, 2012 at Union Baptist Church with Reverend James Fullwood officiating. The family visitation will be held from 11:30am until 12noon on Friday at the Church.

The family wishes to express heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Wake Forest Baptist Health Comprehensive Cancer Center and the Kate B. Reynolds Hospice and Palliative Care Center for the loving care of our loved one in her time of illness.
