Arnethia Harris Coplin was born on April 15, 1940, in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, to the late Frank B. Harris and Eva Mae Woods Harris. She was the third of five children born to her parents, who were known entrepreneurs in their community.
On May 1, 2026, Arnethia transitioned peacefully at Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist after a brief illness, surrounded by her loved ones. Five days after her transition, her sister-Deborah Jackson joined her in their heavenly home.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her siblings, Carl Harris and Rev. Wannetta Bell.
She leaves to cherish her memories her children, Clarence Gilbert Mock, Jr. (Marilyn), Tony C. Mock, Edna Sharie Mock (Nicholas), and Alana Meese Childs; her grandchildren, Anthony, Justin, and Eriek; her devoted companion of over 40 years, David Hairston, and two daughters, Dovetta and Sharon, who remained faithfully by her side; Arnethia is also survived by her extended family, including her sister and brother-in-law, Audrey Harris Wilkins (Jerry); extended sisters, Dr. Cecelia Harris Jeffries (Jimmy) and her “sister of the heart”, Dorothy Moton; sisters-in-law, Judy Ann Mock and Wanda Alderson (Ken); and a host of nieces and nephews, other relatives, and friends.
A lifelong resident of Winston-Salem, Arnethia was educated in the local public school system. She furthered her education at Forsyth Technical Community College, where she studied business, and later earned several associate degrees while working full-time at Stroh’s Brewery Company and US Airways. Throughout her adult life, she was a devoted member and leader at Goler Metropolitan A.M.E. Zion Church in Winston-Salem, where she served faithfully.
Arnethia will be remembered for her strength, dedication to extended family and friends, and for her unwavering faith. Her legacy will live on in the lives of those who knew and loved her best.
