Aragatha Ingram Smith, affectionately known as "Ms. Gatha", was born on July 22, 1932 in Wadesboro, NC to the late Tyson and Flossie Ingram. The family later moved to Winston-Salem, NC where Aragatha attended the local public schools. She departed this earthly life on March 15, 2025 after an extended period of illness. She was employed by NC Baptist Hospital until she took an early retirement to become a full-time housewife.
She was a member of Mt. Olive Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Dr. Charles E. Gray for over 25 years and served as a greeter until declining health prevented her from fulfilling her duties. Aragatha had a special place in her heart for the members of Mt. Olive Baptist Church. Over the course of the years, her faith and love of family in the circle of life served her well. Her love for her children and family was unmatched. Her grand and great-grandchildren affectionately called her "GG".
She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Smith, Sr.; 4 sons, twins Roudolph & Randolph Smith, Frank Smith, Jr., and Charles Smith; grandson, Teron Fraizer; 2 brothers, Tyson Ingram, Jr. & Rosevelt Ingram; and sister-in-love, Annie Mae Squire.
She leaves to cherish her memory her 4 daughters, Dina Daniels, Gwen Smith-Rasheed (Kenneth), Lora Smith, and Licia Wright (Albert); 3 sons, Jerome Smith (Deb), Robert 'Stonewall' Smith (Catrina), and Timothy Smith; 30 grandchildren, from the city- Tamala Scales (Donald), Rahsaan Ingram, Monta Smith and Pablo Smith (Kesha) of Charlotte NC, Jamaal Rasheed (Courtney) of Elkton MD, Kimmo Smith of North Korea (United States Army), and Albert Wright Jr. of Lumberton NC, Jerron Smith, Micheal Bowman, LaMisha Smith, Jameilia Ross (Rodney), Tunisha Brooks, Antoine Smith, Tierra Smith, Kayla Galloway, Kisha Robinson, Robert II, Tiffany Smith, Tywan Tart, Leticia Pettigrew, Robert III, Kendrel Smith, Kendre Tartt, Katerria Smith, Kenya Fraizer, Chris & Anthony Taylor all from the city; 48 great-grandchildren; 35 great-great-grandchildren; 2 sisters, Dorothy Ingram of Charlotte, NC and Mary Ingram of the city; special friends, Ms. Bonnie Parker and Marthenia Kitty Douthit; and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
A viewing will be held from 1:00pm until 5:00pm Friday, March 21, 2025 at Russell Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00pm Saturday, March 22, 2025 at Mt. Olive Baptist Church. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. The family visitation will be held from 12noon until 1:00pm on Saturday at the Church.
