Antonio Denard McClendon, affectionately known as "Tony", was a gentle giant to everyone he met. He had a heart of gold and would give his last to those he loved. He was a lifelong resident of Winston-Salem, NC and the CEO/Executive Director of Calm Source, LLC, in Danville, VA.
Tony was born in Winston-Salem, NC on May 5, 1971 to Shelia Willis and Curtis McClendon. He graduated from Parkland High School and went on to serve in the United States Navy from 1991 to 1993. Tony returned to his hometown and dedicated his life to helping others. He worked for numerous group homes before starting his own mental health agency, The Right Choice MWM, Inc. Tony continued to work in this field until his demise. Tony was diagnosed with throat cancer in February 2020. Although he beat cancer, he died unexpectedly on November 12, 2020 from other complications.
Tony was preceded in death by his father, Curtis McClendon; his paternal grandparents, Sylvester Curtis and Lucille Green McClendon; his maternal grandparents, Mary Jordan Willis and Cornelius Willis; and one aunt, Miriam Willis.
He was survived by his mother Sheila Willis Lindsay; four sons, Marquis McClendon, Naje McClendon, Curtis McClendon and Nelson Johnson; one daughter, Jael Williams; a brother, Kevin Edmond; two sisters, Stacy McClendon and Lisa Edmond; two aunts, Martha Richardson and Shelia Winningham; one uncle, Cornelius Frazier; a fiancé, Trish Marsh; best friends, Melvin Ingram and Jermaine Rodman; devoted friends, Lakisha Patterson, Kamina Taylor, Michelle Williams, Chris Buxton, Tony Evans, Shawan Gabriel, Carl Glenn, Leonard Hayes, Garnett Hill, Lincoln Mitchell, Antwonne Newsome, and IQ Warris; and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
A viewing will be held from 1:00pm until 5:00pm Friday, December 4, 2020 at Russell Funeral Home. Private services will be held Saturday, December 5, 2020.
