On December 31, 2009 God called his faithful son, Anthony Covington to serve in his heavenly garden. He was born July 6, 1935 in Winston-Salem, NC to Henry and Geneva Covington.
He was a graduate of Atkins High School and served honorably in the US Navy and Reserves. He was well known for his artistic talents and enjoyed socializing with family and friends. He retired from Fairview Cleaners and attended Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church in Winston-Salem, NC.
The third of eight, Anthony Covington was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Clyde and Hector Covington; one sister and brother-in-law, Velez and James Wright; and one sister-in-law, Elmeta Covington.
His quiet and calm demeanor will be remembered by his wife, Beatrice Covington of Winston-Salem, NC; two sons, Anthony Covington, Jr. of Winston-Salem, NC and Brian Clayton Covington of Atlanta, GA; two daughters, Teresa Covington and Gloria Covington Abdul both of Winston-Salem, NC; nine grandchildren; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Helena (Ernest) Bailey and Gwendolyn (Lorenzo) Thomas; two brothers and a sister-in-law, Donald Covington and Alvin (Carnell) Covington; one special sister-in-law, Charlotte Covington Pringle; one uncle, Bill Barnett; and a special nephew, Reginald Covington; along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 1pm Wednesday, January 6, 2010 at the Russell Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Edna West officiating. Interment will follow in Piedmont Memorial Gardens. The family visitation will be held from Noon until 1pm on Wednesday at the funeral home.
