Mr. Anthony Lemar Cates was born March 8, 1960 in Winston-Salem, NC to Welton Thomas Melton and Mildred Cates (James) Montgomery. Anthony, affectionately known as "Teddy" by family and close friends went home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Sunday, November 1, 2009 after a brief illness.
Anthony attended Winston-Salem Forsyth County Schools and was employed at Douglas Battery Company for 18 years. He was employed by Rexam the last three years and was a member of Galilee Missionary Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his father; and his mother and step-father.
Anthony leaves to cherish loving fond memories his daughter, Anna Hill and her mother, Ronda Hill; his brother, Everett Bernard Cates; his devoted aunt, Bernice Cates; aunts, Virginia (Lawrence) Bobo, Bennie Mae Miller, Pauline Falcon, Elois Smith, and Annie Mae Cates; uncles, Fletcher (Shirley) Cates and James E. (Tonya) Melton; a nice, Latishia Cates; great-niece, Serenity McCoy; and a host of devoted relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 1pm Friday, November 6, 2009 from the Galilee Missionary Baptist Church with Pastor Nathan Scovens officiating. Interment will follow in Parklawn Memorial Gardens. The family visitation will be held from 12:30pm until 1pm on Friday at the Church.
