Ms. Annie Mae Squire was one of thirteen children born to the late Frank and Katie Squire. She was born in Hartsville, South Carolina on November 1, 1930. The family moved to Winston-Salem, North Carolina when she was a young girl. She was educated in the local public schools and began her early Christian education as a member of Hanes CME Church where the family joined after their relocation to the city.
Following her educational training, Annie Squire's work history included a brief time working at Winston-Salem's City Memorial Hospital. Subsequently, she made a career choice which included the love and nurture of her family. This young mother, committed and dependable, simultaneously loved and cared for her family and the family of Mr. and Mrs. James (Betty) Holmes, Jr. She was mother, teacher, counselor, nurse, and confidant for both families. And for 55 years she was employed by the Holmes family until her retirement at 78 years of age.
Ms. Annie Mae Squire answered the Lord's call to " come home" at Novant Health Forsyth Medical Center on Monday, April 17, 2023, following a brief illness.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, John Squire; a grandson, Nathan Hoover; a great-granddaughter, Tharina Douthit; and nine sisters and brothers.
