Mrs. Annie Ruth Spells Alexander was born on July 25, 1938 in Clayton, North Carolina. She was the youngest of eleven children born to Charlie Spells, Sr. and Lossie Dudley Spells.

She went home to be with the Lord on August 26, 2009 at her residence in the arms of her oldest daughter, with her husband at her side.

She was preceded in death by two sisters, Catherine Atkinson and Guessie Mae; and five brothers, Harvey, Charlie Jr., Marvin, Leroy, and Rollie.

Annie is survived by her loving husband of 46 years, Donald Maurice Alexander of Winston-Salem, NC. They were united in Holy Matrimony on April 14, 1963. From this union Annie and Donald were blessed with three daughters, Latanya Dawn, Debra Lashawn, and Donna Denise. There are two grandchildren, Adonis Keon and Adam Parker; three sisters, Alene Mouzzon, Marie Bryant, and Lossie Brewington (Carlyle); and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM Monday August 31, 2009 from First Baptist Church, 700 N. Highland Avenue. Interment will follow in the Spells Family Plantation, Clayton, NC. The family visitation will be held from 6:00 PM until 7:00 PM Sunday, August 30, 2009 at First Baptist Church.
