Ann Burris Hairston was born on November 27, 1941 to Leona Burris and Gus Burris  in Winston-Salem, North Carolina . She attended the Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools graduated from Paisley High School, Class of 1967.

She was a member of  Mount Zion Baptist Church, and belonged to the Ladies' Usher Board and the Sarah Missionary Group.

For 28 years prior to retirement, Ann Hairston was employed as an operating room technician at North Carolina Baptist Hospital.  She was a Life Member of the NAACP, Precinct Captain at the Fourteen Street Voting Site and, a former Vice-President of the PTA at Philo Junior High School.   She belonged to the Bowling League at Northside Lanes, and she played on the North Carolina Baptist softball team.

She died at her home on Saturday, October 19, 2019.  She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Patrick Hairston Sr.; and three siblings.

She is survived by ten children: Barbara Jean Hairston (Willie) Sims, Patrick T. Hairston Jr., Debra L. Hairston, Michael O. Hairston, Robert (Theresa) Hairston Sr., Sherman P. (Beverly) Hairston, Teresa D. Hairston, Algernon (Dawn) Hairston, and Patricia A. Hairston; and a number of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren; several nieces, nephews extended family members and friends.

The family wishes to extend special thanks to Mrs. Hairston's neighbors and friends at St. Peter's Heritage Place and her nurse Kaki at Trellis Supportive Care.

Funeral services will be held at 12:00noon Friday, October 25, 2019 at Mt. Zion Baptist Church. The family visitation will be held from 11:30am until 12:00noon on Friday at the Church.
