Pastor Angelo Denorris Johnson, affectionately known as "Nod," peacefully made his transition to Eternal Rest at the Select Specialty Hospital in Greensboro, NC on May 22, 2019. He was born August 23, 1961 in Winston-Salem, NC to the late Mr. Jake Jack Johnson Jr. and Mrs. Jeanette Young Johnson. He attended the local schools and graduated from Parkland High School in 1980. He received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Human Relations, High Point University, High Point, NC, and earned his Masters of Public Administration from Ashford University, San Diego, CA. Pastor Johnson furthered his education in biblical studies at St. Peters WOC Bible College. He was earlier employed by the Housing Authority of Winston-Salem. He served as the Executive Director of the non-profit organization, 4J Youth Enrichment Center. Angelo was an integral part of the management team of the Amer Community Center, W-S, NC.
Angelo loved God, his family and his friends. He was a true man of God. He strived to spread the Gospel of Jesus Christ to everyone he came in contact with. He was an active member of the church and gladly received Jesus Christ as his personal savior at a young age. He received his spiritual foundation under the leadership of his grandfather the late Bishop Jake J. Johnson, Mount Nebo Holiness Church, W-S, NC. Angelo's specialty was Outreach ministry, serving along-side his brother Apostle Antonio Johnson at Love Fellowship Outreach Church, W-S, NC. He served several Ministries as an ordained associate minister and drummer.
On October 14, 2014, He married his friend and the love of his life, Lady Elder Carol J. White. In 2017, together they founded Abiding Faith Outreach Ministries, W-S, NC where he served as Senior Pastor.
He leaves to cherish fond memories his devoted loving wife, Carol; his mother; brothers, Deacon Jake Jack Johnson, III of California and Apostle Antonio Lavon Johnson; sons, Kelvis (Esharan) and Kaleb; daughter, Kanalya Johnson; grandchildren, Amaya, Mikayla, Niyae, and Eliah Johnson; mother-in-law, Delores White; sister-in-law, Dianna (Michael) Ball; he is also survived by nephews, nieces, great-nieces and nephews, cousins and a host of relatives and friends .
A Celebration of Life service will be held at 11:30am Wednesday, May 29, 2019 at Cathedral of Refuge Church, 534 Oak Summit Road, Winston Salem, NC. Interment will follow in Oaklawn Memorial Gardens, Winston-Salem, NC. The family visitation will be held from 10:30am until 11:30am on Wednesday at the Church.
