Obituary

Ms. Angela Tamita Helms Monroe quietly took her Savior's hand and walked into His kingdom to begin her well earned rest on Friday, August 31, 2012, after an extended illness that spanned over 25 years.

Ms. Monroe was born on February 3, 1968 in Louisville, KY to Samuel T. and Brenda Hosch-Helms. Angela resided in her residence at 801 Martin Luther King, Jr. Drive, Winston-Salem, NC. She attended various military schools in the United States and graduated from Mannheim Jr. High in West Germany.

Angela began to show her gift as an artist at approximately 7 years old. She loved to do charcoal drawings in various styles. She worked as a model for several years. She was always willing to help everyone, having never met a stranger. She showed her love for her family everyday in every way she could.

Ms. Monroe was a member of St. John CME Church. However, she enjoyed visiting various churches in Winston-Salem. She instilled in her son, her quiet demeanor and reminded him to always respect others and himself. She often said "he is the best work, he had ever done".

Ms. Monroe was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Willie and Beverly Hosch and paternal grandparents James and Elizabeth Helms; one uncle; two aunts; three cousins; and DeWayne D. Heard, the biological father of her son.

She leaves to cherish her memory her son, Travis DeWayne Helms; her parents, Samuel T. Helms and Brenda Hosch-Helms; a sister, Samantha Stewart; a brother, Samuel T. Helms, II (Shulonda); nieces, Calecia, Angela, Brena'i and Alysia; nephews, Brandon (Cekona), Samuel III and great-nephew Eli; a host of aunts, uncles, cousins and friends that include Mr. Ronnie Johnson a loving and dedicated companion; and she shared parental responsibilities of her son Travis with Mr. Albert L. Monroe.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00pm Thursday, September 6, 2012 at St. John CME Church with Rev. Christopher Manning officiating. Interment will follow in Piedmont Memorial Gardens. The family visitation will be held from 12:30pm until 1:00pm on Thursday at the Church.
