Angela "Angie" Charmaine King, born on July 30, 1972, departed this life on August 15, 2024, after a long, courageous battle with breast cancer. Angie was a beloved daughter, mother, sister, friend, and warrior whose strength and compassion touched the lives of many.
A published author, Angie, shared her journey through her book, "A Life Lived," providing hope and inspiration to countless individuals facing similar battles. Her fight against breast cancer began in 2008. Despite the challenges, she persevered with unwavering determination for her daughter, Imani King, her father, James D. King Jr., and all those who supported and encouraged her.
Angie was preceded in death by her grandparents, James King, Sr., and Florida B. King.
She leaves behind a loving family: her parents, James D. King, Jr. and his wife Bennie Jessup, and her mother, Gwendolyn Sample; her cherished daughter, Imani King; her uncle, Willie King; her brothers, Ivan Sample (and his wife, Kim Sample) of Pennsylvania and Levon Dillard of Washington, DC; and her cousins, Tawanna King, Tonja King, Robert Childs Jr., Camille Childs, and Evelyn Childs.
Angie is also remembered by numerous other family members and friends who loved her dearly, including her best friends, Melissa Haney and Melissa Adams, who has been her aces through it all. Angie was a woman who loved God and was of strong character. She relied on her faith to help her through the trials and tribulations of this earthly life.
Angie worshiped at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church in Winston-Salem, NC, and maintained Christian fellowship with Resurrection Baptist Church in San Antonio, TX. As a woman of faith, Angie was a virtuous woman who was trustworthy, hardworking, generous, and kind. She honored God and cared for others. She invested in her relationships with God, her family, and her friends.
A dedicated scholar, Angie graduated from Carver High School in 1991. She furthered her education by earning an Associate Degree in Criminal Justice with a minor in Juvenile Justice from Guilford Technical Community College in 1994, a bachelor's degree in Political Science with a minor in English from Winston-Salem State University in 2001, and a master's in business administration with a focus on Human Resource Management from Northcentral University in San Diego, California, in 2016.
Angie retired from her role as a Mission Support Specialist with Immigration Customs Enforcement in San Antonio, Texas, after serving in a federal position from February 2018 to January 2020. She retired on disability, having given her all to her career and community.
Angie's life was a testament to the power of love and the strength of the human spirit. Her enduring love for her family and friends was a guiding force in her life. While she will be deeply missed, her legacy of love, strength, and compassion will continue to inspire and guide those who were fortunate enough to know her.
"Victory – I am not sure what that looks like for myself. Only God Knows what this is for me, and there are times I want to give up and others I want to fight." (A Life Lived, Angla King 2024) God knew when His child was ready for her rest, and He now gave her Victory.
