For this day, it is written in the book of Our Lord and Savior that Andrew Cornelius Hanes, Jr. was a wonderful son and the second child born to the loving union of his late parents, Andrew C. and Ann M. Hanes. He was an extremely wonderful and fiercely protective brother to his siblings Brenda Gayle Hanes Redd (George, III) and Barbara Hanes Burke (Todd) of the city and brother Derrick Oliver Hanes (Cynthia) of Miami, FL. He was loving, smart and talented in so many ways. He would meet the love of his life, Mrs. Robbin K. Hanes (aka "Baby Doll") and treat her with the most loving and sweetest regard. He deeply loved his children, daughters Andrea Hairston and Ericka Wright (Reggie) of Winston-Salem, NC, and son Ryan Keller (Michelle) of Apex, NC; and a dear and loving sister-in-love, Lela Smith (Marshall) of Richmond, VA. When he learned he would become a grandfather he was overjoyed to welcome into his heart MacKenzie, Kourtney, Kaden, Kristian and Kamilla. His love for them knew no boundaries.
Andrew enjoyed a wonderful life and career and always excelled in his chosen field. He was educated in the Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools and graduated from Parkland High School. Upon graduation he enrolled at Knoxville College in Knoxville, Tennessee where he met and formed wonderful, lifelong friendships with Brian and Daphne Johnson. Upon leaving Tennessee he joined and served in the United States Air Force until his honorable discharge. He returned to Winston-Salem and worked briefly for RJ Reynolds Tobacco Company. Because of his ability to engage people and his zest for life and new experiences, he sought employment with Circuit City of Winston-Salem where he earned numerous accolades for being a top earning salesman. After several years there, he was asked to take his expertise to help manage a department of Circuit City of Charlotte NC. He would often share "this is where I should have been all along", I love this place. It was in Charlotte that Andrew met and fell in love with Robbin (his Baby Doll) and they formed a loving union and built a beautiful, sweet, and fulfilling life together.
You could always find him planting flowers around their home, tending to his garden in their beautiful backyard or on the grill preparing for family and friends. He loved family and cherished opportunities to gather. The arrival of another grandchild several years later called the beautiful couple to relocate to Raleigh, NC where once again, he successfully established himself in a brand-new career, the insurance industry, where he garnered many accolades and remained until his death on Friday, September 30, 2022, at the age of 66.
Andrew, Junior, "Drew", is survived in addition to his wife, children, grandchildren, siblings, aunts, nieces, nephews, many cousins and beautiful friendships established over his beautiful lifetime. May you rest in your well-deserved peace our dear loved one.
