Obituary

André Lamont Carroll was born on May 19, 1977 in Fayetteville, North Carolina to Ms. Esther Carroll and Mr. Charles Gilmore.  He was the youngest of three children.

André grew up a typical, happy kid who enjoyed watching karate movies, reading comic books, and playing video games. He could be seen in the neighborhood playing basketball and football with his friends.  André also loved to play board games, especially during family gatherings, which gave him another opportunity to display his competitive side.  He was an avid reader and could be found on a Saturday searching shelves of books at the local library and used bookstore.

Spending time with family gave André great joy. He was fun, kind, and thoughtful and was always supportive of his family.  He would faithfully attend anything his nieces were a part of, whether a dance performance, theater production, sporting event, or recognition of their academic achievements.  He was a proud uncle and would constantly tell them how proud he was of them. André always loved hanging out with his older brother, Tim - shopping, watching movies, and traveling. They maintained an exceptionally close bond and friendship throughout André's life.

André graduated from Terry Sanford High School, Fayetteville, NC in 1995 where he was a member of the National Honor Society and excelled academically. After high school, he attended North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University where he graduated Summa Cum Laude honors with a Bachelor of Science in Accounting in 1999.  André loved his alma mater and constantly boasted of being a graduate of such a distinguished HBCU.  He unapologetically beamed "Aggie Pride".  After graduation, André moved to Oklahoma where he began his career in accounting for BP/Amoco. André worked for various fortune 500 companies throughout his career.

André was a man of faith who loyally served in the Parking Ministry at St. Peter's Church and World Outreach Center.

In 2017 André experienced a stroke and received extraordinary care from the staff of Novant Health Forsyth Medical Center. With prayer and support from his family and members of his church, he successfully recovered and was able to lead a normal life.  André shared with his family how grateful he was for his healing and that every time he drove by Forsyth Medical center, he would say a prayer for the staff and patients.

André transitioned to glory on December 24, 2022.  He is survived by his mother, Esther Carroll; brother, Timothy Carroll; sister, Pamela Spalding (Tony); nieces, Kayla Spalding and Brielle Spalding as well as a host of beloved family members and devoted friends. He had a profound impact on all who knew and loved him. André will be forever loved and missed.

André's Celebration of Life Service will be held Thursday, January 5, 2023, at St. Peter's Church and World Outreach Center, Family Worship Center (Address: 3683 Old Lexington Road, Winston-Salem, NC 27107). The Visitation will take place at 11:00 a.m. with the Memorial Service beginning at 11:30 a.m.
