On September 6, 2007, the Lord cracked the sky and the angels came forth and lifted Amus Willette Hughes, Sr., 51, of 4962 Wilkes Drive . He was born on July 21, 1956 in Winston-Salem , NC to Milton Wilson Hughes, Sr. and Alice Ruth Miller Hughes. Amus was a graduate of Central Senior High School and was previously employed at R. J. Reynolds Tobacco Company for 26 years.
Amus served the music ministry of different churches throughout the city of Winston Salem and the Triad area for many years blessing many with his musical gift.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Amus leaves loved and cherished memories to his loving and devoted wife of 22 years, Evette Hickman Hughes; one devoted daughter Lasheka Hughes; one devoted son, Amus, Jr.; twelve brothers and sisters, Wilbert (Denise), Willie (Diane), Marshall, Milas, Maurice, Samuel (Katrina) and Mandor Hughes, Alice Hughes Norwood (Donnie), Martha Hughes Dean (Marreece), Melinda Hughes Gentry (Ronnie), Mary Hughes Wilson, Magdalene Hughes Glenn; a father-in-law, William Hickman (Rosalyn); three brothers-in-law, Roger Hickman, David Hickman and Casanova Hickman (Pat); one loving sister-in-law, Marie Little (Dario); and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 2 pm Thursday, September 13, 2007 from the St. John CME Church with Bishop Steve L. Carlton officiating. Interment will follow in the Evergreen Cemetery . The family visitation will be held from 1 pm until 2 pm on Thursday at the Church.
